UTC Mall arrives in Sarasota along with new Business

Norton Hammersley Business & Corporate Law

The UTC Mall has arrived and all the angst that accompanied it from traffic concerns to diverting business seems to have tapered. This may be due in part to the exceptional preparedness of the Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch community. Instead of throwing our hands in the air and bracing for doom, the local think tank has contingencies in place to ensure the mall doesn’t drain custom from existing Sarasota businesses.

The consensus that the areas population can only support one mall has lead Westfield Southgate to already begin an upgrade to its appearance and plans to expand with a new one-acre street-style outdoor shopping and dining area, and maybe even an upscale, dine-in movie theater. It will be renamed Westfield Siesta Key and instead of competing with chain stores at UTC will offer opportunity to alternative retailers. It will become an evening entertainment destination. The independent retail and restaurant opportunities this area could provide are limitless. Plans to increase the density of residential units in Downtown Sarasota and an anticipated opening of more than 80 restaurants – many with outdoor seating will only help in creating a Downtown buzz that anyone who has driven the extra mile to entertain in St Pete’s lively bay front will be able to envisage.

All this, with the new hotels, more than 5,000 new planned Lakewood Ranch homes and the tens of thousands of extra visitors expected each year with the international rowing park,  Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch and Bradenton will be glad of the opportunity to dilute the influx of customers rather than compete for them.

This growth and opportunity is the American dream. For entrepreneurs and small business owners the time is now! An array of businesses are flourishing; retailers, salons, restaurants, landscaping, property management, kids play centers, to list just a few!   It is now that you as a business owner will be working harder than ever  to make sure your business is growing and isn’t swallowed up in the wave but instead rides it.
